Wrapping up high school in Oz often means a gap year. A year, for most, to travel while learning to become an adult, typically by launching yourself into the deep end and putting yourself in hairy situations. Be it dangerous benders in a third world country, spending months in a bedbug-infested hostel or, in the case of Jordy Turansky, travelling Oz with your filmer mate and hauling yourself into the countries most consequential slabs.
Jordy’s gap year might have looked slightly different if it weren’t for the virus making life so damn challenging. Maybe he would be poolside in Indo by day, drinking cheap, questionable cocktails and staying out until far too late in a Canggu nightclub by night and missing the next days early. As fun as that is, from what Jordy has pieced together here with Cameron Staunton (filmer and editor), an all Australian gap year may be the best trip a grommet can do to celebrate the end of his school life.
