George Pittar has had a rollercoaster couple of years. In 2022 he qualified for the CS through the regional QS but questioned if he had the talent to be brushing shoulders with some of surfing’s elite who were hoping to qualify for the big time. After making some headway on the CS, he earnt himself two CT wildcards last season and that included a standout semi-final finish at Margaret River where he took down Griffin Colapinto and a host of other big names. Pittar’s dreamy 2024 culminated by qualifying for the CT full time.
Despite being thrust into the limelight in recent years, George comes from humble beginnings. He grew up on the island of Vanuatu, which sits in the South Pacific to the northeast of New Caledonia, but moved to Sydney at the age of 11. He quickly went from surfing perfect reef breaks alone to hassling 50 others for waves in one foot beach break conditions.
George takes a deep dive into his upbringing and quick rise to CT ascension as he sits down with On Board’s Luca Elder in their latest YouTube clip ‘George Pittar – From Wildcard to Rookie’.
