Since the evolution of the thruster, twin fin’s have often been considered a ‘fun board’. The member of your quiver you bring out when the waves are small, junky and you can’t be bothered with the effort of trying to generate speed on your performance shortboard. However, in recent years, surfer’s like Mikey February have completely debunked that theory.
Working alongside Britt Merrick and the team at CI, Mikey has sought to come up with a number of different twin fin models which can be ridden when the waves are solid and hollow. The South African has been seen drawing his own unique lines on boards like the Twin Pin, CI Mid Twin and more recently the Feb’s Fish. It leads the average surfer to wonder whether they could follow suit and use their two finned friend even when the waves pack more of a punch.
The problem is that Mikey February is one of the most stylish surfers in the world and has a repertoire that was once good enough to qualify for the WSL CT. Leaving most with little hope that they could draw such lines, rather than hold on for dear life in fear that the lack of centre fin may cause you to skip out and eat a face full of water.
However, in Onboard Store’s latest YouTube edit, Bali’s Kian Martin reaches for the Feb Fish and proceeds to laydown his own style of attack on the 5″3 in a range of conditions. Kian also rips the bag out of it, but the video is proof that it’s not only M Feb that can ride a Feb’s Fish. Leaving mere mortals with hope that they too can ride a Feb’s Fish.
