After attending the Australian premiere of Snapt5 earlier this month, it became apparent that amongst the various different sections dedicated to each surfing superstar in the movie, Mateus Herdy’s part was distinctly different to the rest. The majority of surfers who featured in the film had stacked their clips from various trips to the best surfing locations across the world to give them the chance of scoring the best waves possible. As for Mateus, he had to make do with launching on two foot ramps at home.
While filming for Snapt5, Mateus was mostly without a sticker on the nose of his board meaning that finances were tight and he couldn’t afford to do free surf trips in between his already hectic Challenger Series schedule, which was being funded by Logan Dulien, the creator of the Snapt series.
Since then Mateus has signed with Julian Wilson’s Rivvia Projects and the Brazilian’s latest edit features some of the first free surfing footage with the sticker on his nose. His latest episode of the ‘Endless’ series sees the 24-year-old clock up some water time at home with friends and also compete in a QS 4,000 as he prepares to head to Portugal for the fourth stop on this year’s Challenger.
Mateus is currently second on the CS as he hopes to finally make that jump into the big league. As we wait for Portugal to kick off next week, hit the link above to watch.
