“Shinko is more than just a surf break, it’s a crossroads where tradition and innovation meet and like most surf scenes it’s a melting pot of generations of beach bumming that is so refreshing to be around and helps keep everyone motivated to do better each time they hit the water,” said Dylan Graves when touching on the surf scene situated 30 minutes outside the main city of Sendai in Japan.
“The local surf community is passionate and welcoming and are at the forefront of pre and post surf innovation,” he added.
The shifting teepee skatepark-like A-frames of Shinko, which on their day can also turn into stand up tubes, sit alongside a huge industrial area where ships enter the port and there is constant cargo being moved around on trucks, leaving Dylan to describe the place as a ‘sci-fi surf scene’.
In Dylan’s latest Youtube edit he checks out the thriving surf scene of Shinko and scores a solid swell which looks similar to a world class beachie in Hossegor or Portugal on its day.
Dylan also hooks up with a number of the locals and takes après surf cuisine to a new level with some tasty looking ramen.
