Dane Henry clearly has a special connection with El Salvador’s right hand points. He won both his ISA World Junior title and his most recent ISA Men’s Open title on the long tapering walls. The Central American surfing hotspot also played host to Dane and brothers Cannon and Carson Carr for a recent strike mission that was documented on the ‘Salad Days’ YouTube channel.
Both Dane and Cannon are on similar programs, chasing their respective WSL QS circuits in Australia and America, with the younger Carson not too far behind. All three are explosive regular footers with that youthful aerial prowess and spring in their step.
As for Dane, he recently told Tracks that he’d used his time competing in El Salvador to also work on his rail game.
“Everyone knows that my air game is really good but I wanted to prove to myself and everyone else that I could get it done with turns. I get a lot of people saying that I’m just an air guy but I didn’t do a proper air until the quarters in the ISA’s. I know I’ve been heavily reliant on pulling last minute punts in the past but this was about focusing on my rail game a whole lot more.”
If this latest edit, and his recent comp results, are anything to go by, I think it’s safe to say Dane’s rail game has gone up a few levels.
