In the current social media era, there is constant pressure on professional surfers to continually post content in order to stay relevant. Few are afforded the luxury of being able to do things in their own time. However, for Craig Anderson his continual focus on quality over quantity, alongside a number of other factors, has meant he can do things on his terms.
Craig has just released a new short film titled ‘Samudra Spirit Glitters’, which is his first long form solo project in a number of years. Filmed and edited by Dave Fox, the 11 minute flicks sees the pair travel to the depths of Indo to score a number of waves you’d often associate with Ando – A slabby left wedge and a long drawn out barreling left point. The added bonus is there’s not another surfer in sight, something which is also incredibly difficult to get away with in the current social media era.
Earlier this year while on a trip to Portugal, Ando told me he often chooses ‘wave that suit his surfing’ when working with a filmer in order to be ‘productive as possible’. It’s clear he takes his free surfing gig seriously and that point is reinforced when you see the lengths him and Dave go to in order to score for the film.
Combine the left tubes and Ando’s timeless style with the edgy music choice and creative colour palette, and you get a quirky but entertaining edit. Hit the link above to check it out.
