Making a surf film for your brand would be pretty tricky if your team riders were constantly injured. It’d be like trying to field your best XI in a soccer game, but your star players are on the treatment table. You can expect your output and chances of scoring (winning) to be greatly reduced. In the case of Former, the brand founded by Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson, injuries are why the release of their upcoming film ‘Defect’ had to be delayed so many times.
Craig fell victim to time on the sidelines after snapping his ankle during a trip to Chile with fellow Aussie and Former team rider Ben Howard a little over three years ago. Ando finished the trip on crutches but the boys still managed to lock in a month in South America scoring fun waves and stacking clips.
The trip forms the basis for ‘Defective Units Volume #01’ which acts as the first prequel cut, edited by Dane, to the full feature length film which is expected to tour in June.
Here’s what they wrote about the trip:
“A month-long trip in South America. Conditions were inconsistent, the banks didn’t really cooperate and just as the waves began improving, Craig snapped his ankle. A theme that has somewhat defined DEFECT as a project. This first episode runs for 20+ minutes and has been put together Dane himself. We hope you enjoy.”
