“If you’ve ever gone all in on something that mattered – this is for you.”
For Jordy Liackman, a 21-year old from Caves Beach, he went all in on creating his latest surf movie ‘Chasing Seconds’. The 12-minute edit documents a year of his life where he grafted on the tools to fund a number of surf trips and stacked clips by asking mates to film or by picking up whatever he could find from others shooting.
In the current climate, where budgets are tight and surf industry cuts are common, even young and hungry talent like Jordy have to work a regular job to fund their trips. This means that each journey comes with added risk. Any hiccups or getting skunked can result in money down the drain and nothing to show for it. However, I bet it makes it even more worthwhile when you do score.
As evidenced by ‘Chasing Seconds’, Jordy most definitely scored. From rippable skate-park ramps in Indo to draining rights and sketchy slabs across South Australia and WA, the film has it all.
Here’s what Jordy had to say about the film:
“Chasing Seconds is an independent surf film shot across Australia and Indonesia — from Western Australia to the islands of Indo. It’s the story of a year spent chasing waves, working long days on the tools, and doing whatever it took to stay close to the ocean and make this project happen.
“There was no production crew and no budget — just a vision and the help of friends willing to point a camera. The film came together piece by piece, between road trips, shared meals, breakdowns, and the short windows where everything finally came together.
“It’s not just about surfing — it’s about the mission behind it. The risks, the waiting, the dead-flat weeks, and the fleeting seconds that make it all worth it. Every part of this film was built from the ground up: edited late at night, and driven entirely by love for surfing and storytelling.
If you’ve ever gone all in on something that mattered — this is for you.”
