State vs State rivalry is a huge thing in Australia. It carries across many sports with the most renowned being the State of Origin rugby series between New South Wales and Queensland. The rivalry even extends to surfing occasionally and in the final episode of the Surfing Australia x Dometic Camping Challenge, NSW and QLD faced off against each other in a surf contest.
The six part sees two surfers from each boardriders club that made the 2024 ABB Grand Final held at Burleigh earlier this year take time away from their competitive schedules to explore the country’s vast coastline in search of uncrowded waves.
During the State challenge, surfers from North Shelly Boardriders and Le-Ba Boardriders teamed up against Burleigh Heads Boardriders and North Shore Boardriders.
One contest from each team was given a select maneuver which they had to perform on a single wave which was given a score out of 10. There was also a bonus round for the best wave performed in switch, which was given double points. This was taken out by Joel Vaughan who looked as comfortable goofy as he does regular.
