“Only a surfer knows the feeling.” Those words couldn’t ring truer in this emotive short film about a surfer and his wax. Created by commercial film director Patrick Tom, ‘the long goodbye’ is an ode to sentimental story that depicts a surfer’s journey of how dewaxing a board explores themes of memory, personal reflection and letting go.
Far removed from the usual surf edits we post to the site, the short film is something we can all relate to.
“This story is definitely me.” said Patrick. “I connect with my wax. I’ve lived in 4
countries, and surfed all over the world – so every layer, grains of sand, and fingernail marks triggers great memories of sessions I’ve had.”
The Long Goodbye is a tribute to memories we hold dear, offering surfers and non-surfers an introspective experience that transcends the sport of surfing, as well as revel in it.
