Scoring pumping left hand barrels in Indo while having a former world champ in the lineup calling you into waves and coaching you from the shoulder – as young female surfer, it doesn’t get much better than that. As part of Surfing Australia’s High Performance Pathway Program, 2005 world champ Chelsea Hedges recently took Charli Hatley, Ziggy Mackenzie, and Isi Campbell on a strike mission to G-Land.
The trip was documented for Surfing Australia’s YouTube channel. Here’s what they wrote about the trip:
“What happens when you drop three of Australia’s top upcoming girls into one of the heaviest left-handers on the planet?
“You get commitment. You get wipeouts. You get breakthroughs.
“Australia’s top emerging female surfers took on one of the world’s most powerful reef breaks in this all-girls strike mission to G-Land, Indonesia — led by former World Champion and Surfing Australia High Performance Coach, Chelsea Hedges.
“Follow Charli Hatley, Ziggy Mackenzie, and Isi Campbell as they step into serious surf, sharpen their skills, and push their personal limits in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.
“With locations like Pipeline, Cloudbreak, and Teahupo’o now part of the modern women’s tour, exposure to heavy, technical waves is no longer optional — it’s essential. G-Land provided the ideal setting to work on critical elements like backhand tube riding, positioning, and commitment.”
