A sleek black casing lends an air of mystique and prestige to that which lies within this hefty tome. And rightly so, for these are not middling contents, not basic fodder. Some 20,000 plus images from the finest photographers were sifted through and sorted; perused and scrutinised, just as a jeweller might search for only the best pieces in a scattering of fine gems. The quality and impact of each item also weighed against how well they would complement each other as part of a final collection. The end result – 200 pages of 24 carat content.

Here’s a sample below.

Ned Hart – “I thought I could try knife the drop and slide right under the lip. However, I was definitely under-gunned out there on a 6’2”. I remember pin-dropping, and it felt like I was in the air for so long… I popped straight out the back, but I came up in the impact zone. The second wave of the set absolutely rinsed me.”

Ryan Craig – “Sleepy nights on the North Shore are when the dice games get heated. At least that’s what happened this past season in Hawaii. Although buy-ins are low the energy levels are anything but, as some of the most talented surf groms on the planet stuff themselves into the ‘board room’ at the Volcom House all trying to hustle a few bucks from each other … and talking a bunch of shit in the process.”

Erin Brooks – “I remember paddling for that wave and knowing it was big, and I was deep, but I didn’t care. The drop was pretty hectic, but the wave stretched out in front of me and gave me an amazing view that I’ll never forget. Some waves and moments get burned into your memories and this is one of those waves for me.”

Matt Bromley – “Standing alongside the weapon, my weighted 9’0, which speared me in the head after pulling into a barrel at Puerto Escondido. The flap of skin when lifted perfectly revealed my skull. The result was 35 stitches. Grateful to still be here.”
