The Right is one of the heaviest slabs in Australia. It’s a menacing wave reserved for only the hardest chargers. While a fair share of goofy-footers have taken to it, the wave tends to favour those who stand with their left foot first. Goofy-footers will be pleased, in some weird twisted way, that the Right actually has a sister located not too far away.
The Left, as it has been dubbed, is a couple of bays away and looks just as gnarly. In Tim Bonython’s latest YouTube edit, WA hell man Ned Hart and slab master Zac Haynes take on the wave during a tow session.
In the video’s description Tim describes the wave as ‘evil’.
“You don’t want to surf this wave even if you’re good at it. It’s the epitome of what is known as the classic Aussie slab. A small piece of reef poking out where deep water swells hit hard that create a serious tubing barrel. We call this spot The Left as its on the other side of a large Western Australian bay from The Right. These two waves are amongst my favourite waves in Australia that I love to film, with Shipsterns in Tasmania being the third.
“We hit The Right first with Toby Cunningham but it was barely breaking. Then we head across to The Left where we get some very gnarly waves on tape starring young gun Ned Hart & slab master Zac Haynes. Plus there’s Matt Dunsmore who bagged some epic rides that included what I would say is a contender of wipeout of the year. God knows how he survived. So for something different enjoy this 25 minutes of craziness.”
