Take 3 for The Sea

Pick up a few scraps and help save Planet Ocean.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Tim Silverwood, co-founder and CEO of Take 3, said, “Over 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the world’s oceans each year. By 2050 it’s estimated there will be more plastic by weight in our oceans than fish. 90% of all sea birds are reported to have ingested plastic – this figure is likely to be 99.9% by 2050. 80% of this pollution starts on land, so we can all help prevent this from happening.”

“We believe lots of small individual actions can have a big impact on the planet. The more people who join our tribe and take action, the more we can do for the world’s oceans! That’s what our ‘Ocean Love’ event series is all about.”

Artists, musicians and locals alike will come together in Bondi on the 1st of April to celebrate their shared love of the ocean and fundraise for Take 3, a not-for-profit organisation aimed at reducing plastic pollution in our oceans. Take 3 asks everyone to take 3 pieces of rubbish with them when they leave the beach, waterway or anywhere. The organisation aims to use the funds raised to deliver education programs to 300,000 school students around Australia and, with the help of their supporters, remove 3 million pieces of rubbish from the environment in the next 3 years.

The ‘Ocean Love’ Bondi event will feature a photography and art exhibition, a live and silent auction, family activities, and live music from Australian artists throughout the night. Musician Mat McHugh, who will be performing on the night, has thrown his support behind Take 3 and says that we can all make a difference – “My family live by the motto of picking up trash every day when we hit the beach. Imagine if everyone did the same!”

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Not that long ago, in an island chain far, far away, seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before. Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Despite numerous obstacles, the rebel alliance of wave-riding beatniks continued to make Galactik Tracks into a new surfing cosmos; their search for a Nirvana reaching its climax when they arrived at… The Island of Nowhere.

STARRING: DAVE RASTOVICH

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home on the Far North Coast of NSW.

Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us. His films are quiet, beautiful and brimming with sacred purpose. Tim Winton, Acclaimed Australian Novelist
