In his self-narrated film ‘Ascension’, Adin Masencamp talks about growing up in South Africa and the hurdles he had to jump in the fight to achieve his dream of WCT qualification. He also describes the struggles of competing on the WQS and the “dog fight” nature of the ruthlessly competitive series. The reflective film allows him to bring an optimistic outlook to COVID and the lack of competition and travel it caused, giving Adin the chance to take his surfing home and spend time with friends and family to reset for events in the future.
Ascension is sick, and Adin certainly has shades of Jordy Smith in his approach to riding waves. If anything, the waves, surfing and amazing coastline showcased in the film will give you the itch to book a flight over to South Africa as soon as possible.
