Snapt 5 to premiere in August

The world's most hotly anticipated surf movie is almost here.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Snapt 5, a movie made up of sections featuring your favourite free surfers, aerialists, hell men, all of which have sat on their best clips for up to a couple of years in order to save them specifically for this film, is almost here. It’s arguably the most hotly anticipated surf movie right now and creator Logan Dulien has confirmed that ‘Snapt 5 – The Final Cut’ will premiere on 2 August at Huntington Beach during the US Open of Surfing. With an Australia tour of the film to follow in September.

Under the Snapt banner, Logan has produced four movies and confirmed that Snapt 5 will be his last. The films have been an integral part of surf culture for many years and have played a pivotal role in elevating the careers of numerous professional surfers.

This edition of the Snapt series will feature parts from the likes of Mason Ho, Harry Bryant, Noa Deane, Jack Robinson, Taro Watanabe, Parker Coffin, Clay Marzo, Asher Pacey and more. For the first time there will also be a dedicated grom section.

When asked why this will be the last Snapt film, Logan replied: “Having these guys put away their best clips for a couple of years is such a huge ask in the social media age, especially when there is so much pressure from sponsors to be getting a certain amount of clicks and views. I put together Snapt for the love of surfing and I want to leave it all out on the court for this final film. I want to help these guys as much as I can and work hard to produce the best movie possible. I want to leave behind something special and I know that the longevity of these films will surpass any YouTube vlog or Instagram clip.”

For those in the US, you can purchase tickets to the world premiere here.

While we wait for the exact dates and locations for the Australia leg of the tour, check out Snapt 4 below for a flavour of what to expect:

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Not that long ago, in an island chain far, far away, seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before. Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Despite numerous obstacles, the rebel alliance of wave-riding beatniks continued to make Galactik Tracks into a new surfing cosmos; their search for a Nirvana reaching its climax when they arrived at… The Island of Nowhere.

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home on the Far North Coast of NSW.

Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us. His films are quiet, beautiful and brimming with sacred purpose. Tim Winton, Acclaimed Australian Novelist
