The waiting period for the 11th edition of the Capitulo Perfeito, powered by Billabong, is set to begin and a number of the world’s most celebrated tube hounds and former CT Pros are on standby as the ‘Perfect Chapter’ event waits for the Atlantic Ocean to light up the sand bottom barrels of Carcavelos Beach.
The Capitulo Perfeito event is designed to showcase world-class tube riders in the best day of waves of the European Winter. Rob Machado, Clay Marzo, Balaram Stack, Bruno Santos, Aritz Aranburu, Craig Anderson, Noah Beschen and Noa Deane have all been confirmed as invitees for the contest, which has a waiting period from 11 January until 11 March. They will be joined by Portugal’s finest tube riders Nic von Rupp, Pedro Boonman, João Maria Mendonça and Miguel Blanco, who will all face off for a chance at the 50,000 EUR prize.
Another local charger will be granted entry into the contest via fan poll, with the surf community around the world being called out to vote for their favorite tube riding expert from a list of seven Portuguese surfers (Martim Carrasco, António Cardoso, Martim Fortes, Luís Perloiro, Guilherme Ribeiro, Guilherme Fonseca and João Guedes).
Last year’s winner 19-year-old Tiago Stock will also be in the mix after causing an upset during the event’s 10th edition taking down a 50-year-old-school Pipe Master, (Rob Machado) a new school Vans Pipe Master (Balaram Stack) and a novelty wave specialist, Dylan Graves on his way to victory.
The remaining spots in the event will be taken up by the local trials winner and a performance wildcard will be handed out by the event directors, who will be keeping an eye on the best performing tube riders across the world throughout the waiting period and will send out a last minute invite, adding another touch of suspense to what is one of the more unique surf contests in the world.
For the first time in the history of the Capitulo Perfeito, there will also be a women’s category made up of Francisca Veselko, Yolanda Hopkins, Mafalda Lopes and Camila Cardoso who will face off in the punchy beach break tubes of Carcavelos for a chance at being crowned the first women’s champ of the event.
