Surf films spanning across five decades will be shown at the Jack McCoy Australian Surf Film Fest next month with a range of classics, modern greats and the Australian premiere of Snapt 5, one of the most hotly anticipated surf films in the world, set to hit the big screen.
The full lineup for the Gage Roads Brew Co. Jack McCoy Australian Surf Film Fest recently dropped and it includes screenings from Thursday 11 September to Sunday 14 September at multiple venues across Sydney. The final night will be hosted by Tracks at the Brooky Surf Club on the Northern Beaches. We will be bringing our super charged party shenanigans with a number of live bands for a classic Sunday session.
“Dad had been working on the festival for the past 12 months and he personally curated this line up of films. Each of the films included in this years festival has a special place in his heart for various reasons and we can’t wait to bring the surfing community together to celebrate the industry.” said Jack’s daughter, Indianna Campbell.
The festival will kick off with the Australian premiere of Snapt 5 and will feature a live Q&A with its creator Logan ‘Chucky’ Dulien and a number of the crew that were deemed worthy enough for a part in what’s set to be the last edition of the Snapt series. The films have been an integral part of surf culture over the past decade and have helped shape the careers of a number of free surfers.
Bruce Brown’s Endless Summer II and The Road to Patagonia by Matty Hannon will be showcased on the Friday night. On Saturday, Kai Neville’s Modern Collective will be played at the Orpheum Theatre. The film was voted Movie of the Year in 2009 and was considered a catalyst for a new era of surfing at that time. The film features the likes of Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Dion Agius, Yadin Nicol, Mitch Coleborn and Dusty Payne.
McCoy’s 1982 classic Storm Riders will also feature on Saturday night. The film was the highest grossing surf film of all time at the Sydney Opera House, selling over 22, 000 tickets in 8 weeks.
The last day of the festival, hosted by Tracks, will showcase an industry legends talk story, where key members of the surfing world share their insight into the transformation of our industry and what the future hands. We will be closing the evening with a number of live bands, which are due to be announced in the coming week. But you can expect full throttle surf rock energy which will bring every generation of surfer together.
