Leo Fioravanti is the best Italian surfer in the world right now. And he’s only 16. Last year he was crowned ASP European Junior Champion which guaranteed him entry as a wildcard into the WQS events in Europe. He wanted to crack the top 100 on the one world rankings to gain entry to surf the Prime events in 2015. But despite the hype and momentum it didn’t quite happen. “The mission did not go as I had hoped, but then in Lacanau, with the ‘help Jake Patterson, I arrived in the final with Tanner Gudauskas,” he said. Then he won the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro and banked a fifth at the Azores Prime thus shooting him up to 29th on the one world rankings and making it ever more likely we’ll see Leo on the CT in the near future. Here’s a look back at the year that was, shot entirely in Indo, and why we’re labeling him the best surfer to come out of the Mediterranean.
