DAY 9 – Giant waves and jet ski’s

Mum and Rasmus went shopping in Pearl city for Halloween and costumes….
I stayed home with dad and we went surfing all morning…. We surfed for 3 and a 1/2 hours out Velzy, It was the biggest Velzy I had surfed so far… So fun…. The swell was building all day.

Me and dad rode up to Sunset and hung there for a while and watched the Xcel comp… The waves were pumping, solid 8+ feet…

Me and dad then met up with Troy at Barkyards with his Jet Ski as the waves were really building and outside Velzy (which is called Phantoms) was starting to break… It was late in the afternoon and Troy took me out on the jet ski to check Phantoms.
Bombs hitting Phantoms… North and West Peaks….

“Troys mate on a Phantoms bomb…. Blurry photo from ski.”

Troy is a hell man on the Jet Ski and was riding huge waves, 15 – 20 foot faces… Freaky… He said the only thing I had to do was… Don’t let go…

I was stoked to make it back to sand… and earth…. I was rattled…

I had the best experience riding and seeing such huge waves from the Jet Ski… Troy is a freak…

Got back home and we got ready for Halloween.
Halloween is huge on the North Shore… I had a bucket full of lollies and only did two streets…
The whole neighbourhood had turned their houses into the scariest places, everyone was dressed up… It was freaky.

Me and Ras ate untill we were on sugar overload..
Best Halloween ever!

Ras was losing it…..

Off to bed… Nightmares for all for sure…

– By Kyuss King (with a little help from dad).

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us.
