The 11x World Champion Kelly Slater is set to make another return to WSL CT competition after it was announced today that he would compete in the Lexus Trestles Pro Presented by Outerknown as a wildcard.
For most of the competitive year we’ve not seen Kelly in a rashie, apart from his wildcard appearance at Pipe at the start of the season. After he was cut off tour last year at Margaret River at the mid-way point, the same point we’ve just reached in the 2025 season, Slater made it clear that he would still like to compete in the odd event as a wildcard.
We’ve since seen him surf at Tahiti, Fiji, Pipe and now on the 35th anniversary of his first ever CT win, Kelly will return to Trestles – the spot where he earnt his first victory in 1990.
In a press release put out by the WSL, the 53-year-old said: “Surfing this event obviously makes good sense with Outerknown sponsoring the event and celebrating our 10th anniversary. Trestles has been an ongoing great memory for the past 35 years since I won my first event as a professional there, had a number of great wins there while on Tour, and is my girlfriend’s hometown and a second home to me. So I’m looking forward to competing as a wildcard and surf against a top seed or two straight away. At Outerknown we do things a bit differently and this is a different twist for me being the underdog. I’m honored and excited to compete next month.”
While Trestles is a high performance wave and we aren’t sure how the goat’s knees will stack up against surfers young enough to be his kid, you can never count him out. Regardless, we will all be tuning in to see if Kelly could muster up one more CT victory.
