A pro surfer starting a YouTube channel is hardly groundbreaking news in 2025. We’re in an age where every tom, dick and harry is a content creator and our feeds are saturated with vlogs from every corner of the world. However, when a CT veteran such as Jordy Smith, who is a number of people’s favourite surfer ever, starts his own channel and starts uploading content, you sit up and take note.
Most of Jordy’s longer form content in recent years has come during down time between a hectic CT schedule and often sees him resort to chasing waves in and around his home in South Africa. There’s no reason for him to venture too far astray when there’s thousands of empty coastline on his doorstep.
Whether it’s the long drawn out walls of J-Bay, the sand bottoms barrels of Durban’s beach breaks or one of the many nooks and crannies along the coast, Jordy has them all dialed and his powerhouse surfing tears apart each location.
While Jordy has yet to release a vlog style video on his Channel, he’s uploaded his most recent ‘Plus27’ movie in which he journeys through Africa on his off season with some of the continent’s best surfers, as well as ‘Shaping Jordy’ which is a full 47 minute movie, which reflects on his upbringing in South Africa while he chases swells up and down the coast with fellow SA prodigy Mikey February.
