Join Tracks on a Maldives surf odyssey with Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew

Ten days scoring empty waves in the Central Atolls with an icon of professional surfing.
Reading Time: 4 minutes

How would you like to join one of the architects of modern professional surfing and a visionary of our sport for 10 days in the Maldives? Tracks has teamed up with the LUXSurf crew to offer a small number of surfers a golden ticket aboard the Black Manta where you will be greeted by the wisdom and knowledge of Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew as you chase uncrowded waves across the Central Atolls.

Rabbit will be on board for the journey, coaching, offering insight into positioning, flow and decision-making, and hosting intimate evening sessions where he shares stories from a lifetime at the heart of surfing — from the birth of the pro tour to the philosophy that has guided him well beyond competition.

Come and talk story over a cold drink with a legend of professional surfing.

This is surfing as it’s meant to be experienced: unhurried, deeply personal, and passed on by someone who helped shape the sport itself.

The trip will run from 6-15 July 2026 and costs $4,000USD per guest. It includes access to multiple surf coaches and guides, professional photography, daily yoga and the full experience of a luxury surf vessel that’s ventured through the atolls for a number of years.

Post surf sunsets don’t get much better.

Check out the full details on the trip below:

Surf with a master

Rabbit is one of the most influential figures surfing has ever known. A former World Champion and founding force behind professional surfing, Rabbit has spent a lifetime shaping the sport from the inside out. Warm, engaging and deeply thoughtful, he remains passionately connected to the ocean and the act of riding waves. This journey offers the rare chance to surf, travel and spend meaningful time with a true surfing icon — hearing the stories, insights and philosophy that only he can share.

Each day with Rabbit includes:

  • Coaching sessions alongside two expert surf coaches
  • Post-surf breakdowns focused on flow, positioning and decision-making
  • Evening storytelling with Rabbit — moments from the world tour, the early pro era, and the philosophy that shaped generations of surfers.

The Vessel

Black Manta – Luxury without compromise

This could be your home for ten days.

Black Manta is purpose-built for surfers who expect comfort without excess.

  • Spacious, beautifully appointed cabins
  • Expansive indoor and outdoor living areas
  • Two dedicated tenders for fast, flexible access to waves
  • Refined dining, attentive crew, seamless service.

Between sessions, the boat becomes a floating sanctuary — shaded decks, cold drinks, good food and the gentle rhythm of the Indian Ocean.

Couples are warmly welcomed. This is as much about shared experience as it is about surf.

The Waves

From North Male to the Central Atolls

By sailing south, we unlock options few trips ever reach.

Expect:

  • A rotating menu of reef breaks — playful to powerful
  • Fewer boats, lighter lineups, more choice
  • Flexibility to move with swell, wind and mood

This journey isn’t about ticking off wave names. It’s about finding the right wave at the right time — and having it largely to yourself.

Who this is for

  • Intermediate/Experienced surfers seeking depth, not hype
  • Couples wanting a refined, shared adventure
  • Surfers who grew up with Rabbit as a hero — and want to hear the stories firsthand

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Not that long ago, in an island chain far, far away, seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before. Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Despite numerous obstacles, the rebel alliance of wave-riding beatniks continued to make Galactik Tracks into a new surfing cosmos; their search for a Nirvana reaching its climax when they arrived at… The Island of Nowhere.

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home on the Far North Coast of NSW.

Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us. His films are quiet, beautiful and brimming with sacred purpose. Tim Winton, Acclaimed Australian Novelist
