A ghostly reflection on a life as an underground surfer.
Born at Fingal Head on the Gold Coast in 1975, Jay Phillips was a surfer with a bright future, with multiple amateur, club, national and international competition wins to his name.
Described as ‘one of the best surfers on the Gold Coast with a bit of a wild side’ by Joel Parkinson and someone who was looked up to by Mick Fanning.
Jay had the world at his feet but at 16 he tragically lost his father, a heavy feat for anyone to deal with, let alone a teenage boy.
The film documents his path through life as Jay navigates through tragedy and the expectation of being a world class talent. As well as revealing his saving grace, the Snapper Rocks Boardriders where is currently the club’s longest serving president.
Commenting on the film, Jay said: “I just really wanted to get my story out there, especially the situation with my dad. I know a lot of people can relate to that and I used the film as a way to get everything off my back.
“The initial feedback we’ve had from showing people the movie has been great and so I’m stoked that we can get it out there for everyone to watch.”
The film features appearances from Mick fanning, Joel Parkinson, Mark Occhilupo, Tom Peterson, Dean Morrison, Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew and members of Metallica.
