Jackson Dorian has been selected as the wildcard for the Capitulo Perfeito new generation tube riding contest being held at the Hiddenbay Resort in the Mentawai’s.
The Hawaiian regular footer and son of Shane Dorian has been hanging in the Ments over the past week and is due to link up with the Capitulo crew for the comp which starts today and runs until 3 September.
Jackson will be joined by a Portuguese crew of Salvador Vala, Jaime Veselko, Martim Fortes, Salvador Catarino and Simão Prazeres, as well as Frenchman Inigo Madina, WA charger Sid Englert and local Mentawai surfer Joaquin At-Thariq as the crew aim to get as barreled as possible for a shot at the $1,500 Euro prize.
The fundamental criteria will be the same as the Capitulo Perfeito Portugal event, which was recently taken out by teenage sensation, Tiago Stock. It’s all about who rides the barrel the best. However, the judging process will be a little different than the one-day Portugal event. For more than a week, the surfers will be filmed daily and their top three tube rides will be reviewed by a panel. A single wave for each surfer will be posted to social media each day and viewers will be able to weigh in on the final result.
There will also be a judging panel present throughout the comp, made up of Capitulo Perfeito organisers, Tracks editor Luke Kennedy, former Capitulo winner Anthony Walsh and Hiddenbay Resort ambassador Vinicius Pereira.
