Head Dips – Issue 605

Behind the Cover: Dane Henry by Kim Feast This shot was taken swimming around out at Huzzas. It’s one of the best ramps we have here on the Oz west coast and Dane was going absolutely ballistic out there. Dane is a pleasure of a human to hang out and work with. He has a maturity well beyond his years and was always just so amped to figure out how to get better in each session. With the reps he was getting through it was like watching someone playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, but in surfing form. I think the sky is the limit for him and as you can see by his work in the air, he is getting very very comfortable up there. Check out the full feature on page 026. ⸻ The Last Glide: Celebrating 60 Years of Tasmanian Surfing The Last Glide is the long-awaited memoir of Leigh Steven, a master surfboard shaper for over 60 years. Hand-shaping more than 10,000 boards, Leigh has left a lasting mark on Tasmanian and Australian surfing, from remote coastlines to modern surf culture. Beyond shaping, Leigh is an accomplished abstract painter, capturing the rugged beauty and moods of Tasmania’s landscapes. This memoir is a living history of Tasmanian surfing, packed with photographs of his boards, classic surf shots, images of his paintings, personal reflections, and untold stories of discovering remote waves. Beautifully designed, The Last Glide is an essential collector’s edition for anyone passionate about surf culture, surfboards, and the rich history of Tasmania.
