The Preso’ night is traditionally a huge event for any Australian club, but Victoria’s 13th beach boardriders have managed to take their annual awards ceremony to the next level by securing Grinspoon to play.
Once the grommet trophies have been handed out and the Opens champ has made a sentimental speech, Grinspoon’s dirty riffs will be unleashed on the Barwon Heads hotel for a crowd of raucous surfers.

Tracks first heard about the gig from the club’s marketing and sponsorship coordinator, Christian Pritchett, when he was paddling around his beloved 13th beach lineup. When asked how he pulled off the major coup on behalf of the club, Christian suggested it was pretty straight-forward.
“Mate, I just asked them!” he commented between waves.
Grinspoon have had a long-standing cult following amongst surfers and their tracks have featured in several surf movies over the years. When Mick Fanning won the world title in 2008 the Grinners played a surprise gig at the Kirra hotel for Fanning’s world title party.
While that party was strictly for Mick and his mates the gig at the Barwon heads hotel has been opened up to the public. Although half of the tickets have already gone to the members of the boardriders club, there are still a bunch available. If you want to see Grinspoon live, in a classic surf setting, check the 40th anniversary presentation post on the 13th Beach boardriders facebook page.
