The WSL’s decision to move the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro to Burleigh due to the cyclone-hit sandbanks at Snapper not playing ball should be heralded as a good move. Burleigh brought us consistent waves and one of the most entertaining finals in recent times as Filipe Toledo narrowly ousted Julian Wilson, who stormed all the way from the trials to second place. However, in classic WSL fashion it seems like Snapper has made its return merely days after the CT event finished.
The council has been working to replenish the banks across the Goldie by pumping sand down all of the points and it seems like it’s working. The past couple days has seen Snapper return to a version of its former self. A strong contingent of locals and CT surfers who stayed around post-comp have been getting coned behind the rock. While the waves have not quite been linking up all the way through Snapper into Rainbow, dredging tubes are a welcomed site for those in the area.
