Kelly Slater vs Giant Cloudbreak
By Col Bernasconi | 13 July 2011 |
![]() Kelly Slater headed straight into oblivion... How high's that white wash do you reckon? Pic: Rod Owen In conditions being hailed as the best ever at the fabled break of Cloudbreak (off the Island of Tavarua, Fiji), Kelly Slater threw down a challenge to the Pacific ocean and lost. While Hawaiians Bruce Irons, Dave Wassel, Mark Healey and Aussies Ryan Hipwood, Dean Bowen and Nick Vasicek reached for either their big gun's or tow boards, our mate Mr Slater reached for his trusty 5'11". Bucking the trend in ways such as this has worked in the ten-time world champions favour too many times to count – this time however was a different. While KS did ride some solid ones successfully when he stepped up to tackle this giant bomb way outside he was left for dust. The wave just too big and too powerful for the under-gunned maestro. Stay tuned for a full gallery from Tracks photographer Rod Owen here soon. |
